Reports: Hillary Clinton is possible secretary of state candidate

Washington - Senator Hillary Clinton's name has been mentioned as a possible candidate for Secretary of State under the Barack Obama administration, US media reported late Thursday.

Two sources close to the Obama transition team told CNN that they are considering the former first lady and democratic presidential candidate for the influential position.

However, the Chicago Tribune cited Obama's transition team as saying Clinton would be an asset to the new administration, but declined to confirm reports she was under consideration for secretary of state.

Clinton's office said any speculation about Cabinet or other administration appointments is for Obama's transition team to address, reported the Tribune.

NBC reported Clinton was in Chicago on Thursday where Obama is holding daily transition planning meetings.

Several other names have been mentioned for the post, including Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.
