While free stuff rules the AppStore download charts, among the paid software downloaded, games rank first. Mobile ad group Medialets has watched Apple's innovative third-party applications store and came to some interesting conclusions.
Their listings reveal that the most downloaded paid application is a game. So are the vast majority of the next dozens of paid downloads from Apple's AppStore. It seems that predictions which claimed the iPhone will be a major gaming platform, rivaling similar portable gadgets, are more than accurate.
The most downloaded game is Super Monkey Ball, which costs $9.99, followed by Texas Hold'em, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D, Enigmo and, of course, Tetris. The winner, Super Monkey Ball, lets players guide a little monkey encased in a transparent ball to victory by tilting and rolling him through a variety of slopes and turns.
Among free applications, the first is also a game: Tap Tap Revenge, which is a music game which invites users to tap through the beats or shake left and right as arrows fall. The second place is taken by Remote, which turns the iPhone into a Wi-Fi remote for your computer or Apple TV in order to control your multimedia library.
In other AppStore news, music streaming and social community Last.fm also launched a free native app that can stream any of the 5+ million songs from its library, recommend new songs, and give users access to their favorite artists and tracks.
