According to The Wall Street Journal, Dell is currently working on a new digital music player that could hit stores sometime in September.
Not that many details have been disclosed so far. The player was said to feature a Wi-Fi connection, some kind of "small navigation screen" (possibly a touchscreen) and last but not least, it is expected to be priced under $100.
The idea behind the project is to provide users with a player that would be able to connect to the Internet and access a wide range of online sources, thus giving users the chance to download perhaps even unlimited content.
This is not Dell’s first attempt to get a share of the MP3 player market; however, its last product did not appeal to customers quite as the company had planned. Hopefully, the new device will be given the appropriate improvements.
The competition is, without a doubt, very harsh. Obviously enough, the most notable opponent is Apple’s iPod. It will be quite difficult for Dell to get some of Apple’s action, but stranger things have happened.
It seems Dell is keeping itself quite busy; just last month, the company unveiled its new Studio laptop series, giving customers the chance to choose one of the seven available colors.
The Studio 15 has a 15.4-inch screen, while the Studio 17 features a 17-inch screen. Both machines pack dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo processors, they support 4GB of memory and 320GB of HD storage and they also include wireless 802.11 b/g networking.
