Actor Patrick Swayze says he is “thrilled” with the positive
response he has shown to treatment for pancreatic cancer and thanks fans for
the good energy they sent his way, reports People magazine.
Patrick Swayze, wife Lisa Niemi and the doctor treating the
actor for pancreatic cancer had good news to share with People magazine Tuesday.
“We’re thrilled and grateful for the positive response
Patrick has shown towards his treatment,” the couple, who have been married
since 1975, told People.
“Also, we can’t help but feel that all the prayers,
meditations and good thoughts sent his way by everyone has made a difference.
Thank you!” said the two.
When Swayze’s cancer diagnosis was confirmed last month, the
outpouring of concern and support from fans, fellow actors and friends was
overwhelming.
His physician, Dr. George Fisher, said at the time that the
55-year-old actor was quite all right, despite the illness, and that he was
already responding well to treatment.
“Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears
to be responding well to treatment,” Fisher said in a statement. “All of the
reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects
are absolutely untrue,” he added. “We are considerably more optimistic.”
Fisher renewed his profession of optimism Tuesday, telling
People that the treatment is working well for Swayze. “Patrick Swayze continues
to respond well to his treatment for pancreatic cancer. Because of his excellent
response, he will continue the same therapy at Stanford.”
Swayze has been undergoing chemotherapy but not radiation
treatment, according to his rep, and continues his work on cinematographic
projects. The actor is reportedly filming for the A&E pilot “The Beast,” in
which he plays an unorthodox FBI agent.
He next appears on the big screen in “Powder Blue,”
alongside Jessica Biel, Forest Whitaker and Lisa Kudrow.
