You can find love in the strangest places and in the most peculiar situations. Love usually strikes when you least expect it, whether it’s in a nightclub, on the subway or, in this day and age, on a reality show.
As voyeuristic tendencies come natural to most of us, reality shows have become increasingly popular, and have whetted the appetite of viewers for more and more intimate details. One of the first reality shows that have had unprecedented success was Big Brother, a show that consisted of 12 people locked in a house, under constant surveillance. The success of the show prompted it to be borrowed and adapted by several countries – the wildest editions were the ones held in Germany, as the inhabitants of the house left their inhibitions at the doorstep.
Other shows are a bit crueler and offer vulgar and sometimes violent shows. A prominent example is Cheaters, where a man or woman has their partner followed by detectives for a few days to find out whether or not they are being cheated on.
Another popular show is Bachelor, and its counterpart, Bachelorette, where people get the chance to find their match. Jason Mesnick took part in Bachelorette, where he was rejected by DeAnna Papas.
However, the viewers loved Mesnick so much that the producers decided to make him the Bachelor. Mesnick is a single dad with a three-year-old son, a reason why some viewers feel he is a bad choice for a reality show. However, the show is ready to air and Mesnick let slip that he found the woman of his dreams on the show and viewers can rest assured that she will be a suitable mother for his young son.
