Andrew Wyeth, the famous realist painter, visual artist and regionalist artist, died at the age of 91. The beloved artist passed away on Friday morning, in his sleep – authorities have not yet revealed the clear cause of death. At the time of death, the artist was in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, at the Wyeth family estate.
Andrew Wyeth was born in 1917, on June 12th. Creativity, imagination and craftsmanship seem to run in the Wyeth family, if we take a look at the achievements of his closest relatives. Andrew’s father, N. C. Wyeth, was an illustrator and an artist. Andrew’s two siblings were Nathaniel Wyeth, a prominent inventor, and Henriette Wyeth Hurd, a celebrated artist. One of Andrew’s sons, Jamie Wyeth, is also a realist artist, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps.
Artists from all domains, including music, writing, movies and even architecture, have their favorite subject, and Andrew Wyeth was no exception. The favorite subjects of the realist artist were the surrounding lands of his hometown, Chadds Ford, and of his summer home in Cushing, Maine, as well as the inhabitants of these areas.
Andrew Wyeth will remain in our memories as one of the best known and most loved artists of the 20th century – he was even referred to as the “Painter of the People,” given how popular his work was among Americans. His most famous piece or art is the painting Christina’s World, currently at the New York City Museum of Modern Art.
