One of the few titles made for the Wii that is actually a first person shooter is getting a sequel, while the most prominent FPS that accompanied PS3’s launch last year is also joining the party.
Yes, it’s that beautiful time of the year when the snow falls, when people rush to find presents for their beloved ones, and when sequels for games are being announced. Although rumors about a continuation for the Yakuza-inspired game weren’t that hard to confirm (the November job announcement for Ubisoft’s Paris studio or the confirmation from LiveWii, speak volumes), it’s still nice to finally have something palpable about Red Steel 2.
And that something comes from the Official Nintendo Magazine, whose January 2008 issue includes some details about the improved gameplay. According to ONM, we’ll have better AI, better controls and online multiplayer (a feature that was absent in Red Steel 1). Let’s just hope that Red Steel 2 will have a better story this time, because if it’s as lame as the first one, than I don’t see RS2 selling 1 million copies too soon.
In other news, Sony’s highly-acclaimed FPS Resistance: Fall of Man is about to… fall again, judging by what SCEA’s been up to in the recent period. There are numerous reports that Sony has filed a request to protect the “Resistance 2” trade mark, which is enough to drive people’s imagination towards a sequel. Trademork cites an unknown source saying “that Resistance 2 will take place in the United States, will feature Sgt. Nathan Hale in some role, will involve a Chimeran invasion of the US in nine locales including San Francisco and Chicago, will feature vehicles in the multi-player version of the game, and will conclude with a cliffhanger ending that sets up a Resistance 3.”
Just don’t include any American cathedrals Sony…
