The Disney/Pixar animated film “Ratatouille” received the Golden Tomato Award on Monday from Rotten Tomatoes, deemed the best-reviewed wide-release movie of 2007.
Fox Interactive Media's online movie site Rotten Tomatoes announced its ninth annual Golden Tomato Awards on Monday, Jan. 21, crowning the animated comedy about Remy, the wannabe rodent chef, the best-reviewed film of 2007, with an impressive approval rating of 96% on the site’s “Tomatometer.”
While “Ratatouille” is now able to toss in a fresh tomato in its success-recipe, the cooks that concocted “Because I Said So,” a Universal/Gold Circle romantic comedy starring Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore, were given the Moldy Tomato Award for making the worst reviewed wide-release movie of 2007.
“Because I Said So” had an abysmal approval rating of just 5%.
The best reviewed action film of 2007 was “The Bourne Ultimatum” starring Matt Damon and Julia Styles, with a 93% approval rating; “Ratatouille’ was also declared the best reviewed animation film of 2007, with a 96% score, while the Golden Tomato for best reviewed comedy went to Diablo Cody’s “Juno,” dubbed “one of the brightest, funniest comedies of the year” at an approval rate of 93%.
“Away from Her” starring Julie Christie garnered the trophy for best drama, at 95% and “Grindhouse” topped the best horror list of 2007, with a critical consensus that it “delivers exhilarating exploitation fare with wit and panache.”
Other Golden Tomatoes went to “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” for best fantasy; “Sicko” for best documentary; “The Lives of Others” for best foreign film; “No Country for Old Men” for thriller, and “Once” for musical.
The best British film of 2007 was “Hot Fuzz,” described by rottentomatoes.com as “an intelligent, finely tuned non-stop thrill ride.” “Ten Canoes,” the first full-length feature made entirely in an indigenous Australian language, received the Golden Tomato for best Australian film.
