Rapper Pimp C, who was found dead in his hotel room at the
Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood,
apparently died of natural causes.
He was found on Tuesday morning lying in his bed by the Los Angeles
County Fire Department paramedics who responded to a 911 call, L.A. Times
reports.
Capt. Ed Winter from the county coroner’ office said: "It
appears that he died naturally. There were no signs of trauma, no signs of drug
paraphernalia."
An autopsy will be made and results will be available in
almost eight weeks.
Chad Butler, aka Pimp C, was one of the two members of the
Southern rap duo UGK (Underground Kingz), which reached No. 1 album earlier
this year.
On Tuesday the Mondrian Hotel released a statement saying
that the staff checked his room after family members called asking about him.
The statement said: "Mr. Butler had checked into the
hotel on 28 November and, according to the callers, was to have checked out. Security
personnel went to Mr. Butler's room and found him in bed, apparently expired. A
911 call was placed at about 9:20 a.m. and paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire
Department responded and pronounced Mr. Butler dead."
Chad was
born in Port Arthur
and formed the UKG duo in high school along with his friend Bernard "Bun
B" Freeman. Their success came later in 1996 with the song “Ridin' Dirty”
from their second album “Super Tight”.
In 2002 he was sentenced to eight years in prison after he
failed to complete a community service. In prison he released his first solo
album.
He was paroled in 2005 and released in July 2006 his second
album “Pimpalation,” for which he received Gold in March 2007.
His manager, Rick Martin, released a statement in which he
expressed his condolences to his family, wife and three children.
He said: "Chad was finally seeing the results
of the years of love and labor that he and Bun B have put in over the years,
culminating in the tremendous success of their album, 'Underground Kingz.'
