Rapper Fabolous’ Friend Stabbed To Death At Manhattan Club

A 25-year-old man from Brooklyn, who was a pal of U.S. rapper Fabolous, got stabbed to death on Friday in a fight at the Flatiron District nightclub Duvet in New York.

According to CBS 2 HD, Shamal McKinney and his brother partied with Fabolous and friends at the club on Thursday night, before he reportedly staggered outside the club wounded and bumped into police officers who responded to an unrelated incident. He was rushed to the St. Vincent’s hospital with serious cuts in his torso and pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m.

"Words cannot express how much we're going to miss him," said Zella Robinson, the victim's godmother.

"He's a good person — he doesn't bother anybody," she said. "He's just always happy. It should have never happened."

Police are currently investigating the incident interviewing club patrons and employees, but no arrests were made yet. The club reopened on Friday night.

According to police reports, a fight apparently broke out between two women, but it was unclear how McKinney became involved.

"The fight broke out, but he had nothing to do with it," said McKinney's 23-year-old brother, Darryl, who was at the club at the time. "He got caught in the middle. He wasn't with the girls. He was just standing there, however the fight happened. Three boys jumped on him. He didn't know them."

Shamal McKinney, who wore a medallion from the rapper's "Street Family" crew, knew Fabolous because they grew up together, but the star was not at the club when the stabbing occurred, Darryl explained.

"Fabolous wasn't there. He had nothing to do with none of it," he said.

Police found a bloody 7-inch knife in a dumpster near the club. McKinsey's brother added that he was searched when he went to the club, "How did a knife get in the club?"

Director of the Flatiron Alliance Susan Finley told WCBS 2, "We've had blood on the ground that we didn't know who to call to get it taken off the ground when our children are walking to school in the morning."

The club owners refused to comment on the incident.

Neighbor Bill Glaser, 45, a securities trader, said the club is widely disliked in the neighborhood filled with numerous nightspots.

"This is one of the worst in terms of disturbances. There is always a mass of kids walking around obviously intoxicated," he said.
