Previously arrested for driving under the influence after she crashed her car into the center divider on Hollywood Boulevard about a week and a half ago, rapper Eve was formally charged Friday with misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or above and failure to provide proof of insurance, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office said.
The charges follow an incident that occurred on April 26 when the Grammy-winning artist, whose real name is Eve Jihan Jeffers, was stopped by police officers after her gold Maserati crashed into a concrete center divider.
She was arrested at the scene, and later freed from jail after posting $30,000 bail.
Eve, 28, is scheduled to be arraigned May 17. If convicted, the star is facing a maximum of six months in jail and a minimum $1,000 fine.
Eve who used to work as a stripper, made her debut in the music industry after she became a protégé of gangsta rapper Dr. Dre. She released several solo albums, including 2001’s "Scorpion" and "Eve-Olution" in 2002.
In 2001, Eve won a Grammy for the single "Let Me Blow Ya Mind", which she recorded with Gwen Stefani.
Her acting credits include movies like "Barbershop," and "Barbershop 2: Back in Business."
