Arizona police stated that rapper DMX might spend at least 90 days in jail after he had pleaded guilty to drug, theft and animal cruelty charges on Tuesday. DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, pleaded guilty to three felony charges and one misdemeanor count in Maricopa County Superior Court.
The 38-year-old rapper agreed not to have animals or pose firearms and he is scheduled to be sentenced on January 30. Until then, DMX remains in police custody. County Attorney Andrew Thomas said in a statement that he was pleased with the fact that the rapper will be finally punished for his bad deeds.
Yet, Charles Kozelka, DMX’s attorney, couldn’t be reached for further comments. The rapper owns a house near Phoenix, Arizona and he had been implied in various woes during the past year. He was arrested in May and charged for animal cruelty.
The sheriff’s deputies searched his house and they had found dog carcasses and malnourished pit bulls. But this wasn’t DMX’s only misdemeanor, as he was also charged for assuming someone else’s identity and providing fake information during a trip to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Apparently, he just wanted to avoid paying the bill.
Yet, he missed the court appearances, a thing which led to a county court commissioner to release bench warrants for his arrest.
Earl Simmons’ stage name stands for Dark Man X and this name was the one he used when he had started rapping back in 1990.
