The Rainbow Room is one of the most famous and prominent restaurants and nightclubs in the United States. It is located on the sixty-fifth floor of the GE Building, in Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, New York City. The recipes and dishes are of northern Italian origin and there is a wide array of drinks available, among which cocktails, wines, liqueurs and cognacs.
The restaurant and nightclub offers a unique view of the New York City skyline, and customers can also enjoy a revolving dance floor and a live big band orchestra. It is generally a favorite spot to hold private events, as the Rainbow Room has several banquet rooms. Dining at the Rainbow Room doesn’t come cheap, though. If you wanted to enjoy a New Year’s Eve at the Rainbow Room, with delicacies such as caviar, truffles, champagne and mixed drinks from dinner time to breakfast time in 2007, you had to pay $1600 per person.
The Rainbow Room was opened in 1934, and it was restored in 1974 by David Rockefeller, who allotted $25 million to the former supper club’s refurbishment.
The current owner of the Rainbow Room announced on Sunday that the famous venue will close soon, due to both the precarious state of the economy and a dispute regarding the rent. Because of the closure, about 40 people working at the Rainbow Room will lose their jobs, not to mention the fact that tourists will cross another attraction off their lists.
