Although he won the last race of the season at Interlagos and
has one point in front of Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen should wait if the
championship title is his.
After Brazilian Grand Prix the stewards summoned
representatives of BMW-Sauber and Williams for alleged technical
irregularities.
Lewis Hamilton has finished the race on the seventh place,
while Williams driver Nico Rosberg finished fourth and the BMWs of Robert
Kubica and Nick Heidfeld fifth and sixth, respectively
In case the stewards will decide to disqualify the three
drivers, them Hamilton
will be prmoted to the fourth position and he will win the title.
According to the reports the stewards are investigating a
fuel temperature irregularity.
Raikkonen, who had earlier in the season said that he
thought that the championship was no longer a possibility, joked after the race
that he had never said that.
"We certainly always believed that we can recover and
even with the hard times we were sticking together. We reduced the gap and then
we came from behind to not only take the constructors' championship, but also
the drivers'."
"I had an ideal start and then I saw Hamilton slip off in my rearview mirror and
then I knew that I must have a chance. But even after I won the race, I still
had to wait for a long time before Lewis finished", Raikonnen added.
Hamilton’s
bad performance was due to a gearbox malfunction suffered on lap eight, with
the problem relegating him from sixth to 18th.
Alonso congratulated Raikkonen for winning the championship.
"I always said that whoever had the most points on the last day of the
season deserved the championship.
"I knew that Ferrari would manage a one-two finish, so
I could just wait and see if something was going to happen to them to have a
chance to win the championship."
