Raikkonen Grabs The Pole In Belgian Grand Prix

Kimi Raikkonen will start in tomorrow’s Formula One race from the first position, followed by his tea-mate Felipe Massa.

During the qualifying session, the Finnish driver clocked 1 minute 45.994 seconds, while Massa was slower only by 0.017 seconds.

The MacLaren-Mercedes drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton will start the race form the third and fourth positions. For Raikkonen this is the third pole in this season. Actually he won in Spa two years ago when the last Grand Prix was held in Belgium.

"I am happy to be on pole. It is a good result for the team", he said. Last race held in Monza was won by McLaren-Mercedes and their drivers managed to obtain an 1-2 with Alonso on the first place and Hamilton on the second.

Ferrari hopes to obtain the same performance in Spa, "We knew Monza was going to be a tricky for us. This is more like Istanbul and we expected to be strong. We are in a good position with both cars," Raikkonen said.

But Fernando Alonso is hopeful that his team will do good tomorrow. "We all knew that Spa is a little bit more like Turkey and we saw that Ferrari were very strong there.”, he said.

"We expect them to be strong and fight for the win tomorrow. We have made some improvements since Turkey. I don't know if we can fight for the victory but it won't be as easy for them as it was in Turkey, I hope.", Alonso added.

Earlier this week, FIA fined Mc-Laren-Mercedes in the “spygate scandal” by taking all the points accumulated in the constructor’s standings, which means that Ferrari will won the current season.

Still McLaren-Mercedes’ drivers weren’t fined and with four races remaining, Britain's Hamilton has 92 points in the championship, three more than Alonso (Spain), with Raikkonen (Finland) on 74 and Massa (Brazil) on 69.
