When radio listeners across the globe found out about Paul Harvey’s death, they relied on the Web in order to pay their tributes to the renowned broadcaster.
Some of his admirers recalled his soft tone of voice and high-quality wittiness, while others concentrated on the personality’s relation to old-style radio. However, most people eulogized Paul Harvey’s refined nature and expressed grief over the loss of his composure and benevolence.
The broadcaster, who enchanted millions of radio listeners every day with his interesting line of attack, determinedly reputable judgment and long-established viewpoint, died on Saturday at the age of 90, ABC News has announced.
According to the network, the broadcaster passed away at a hospital located in the vicinity of his winter residence in Phoenix. Nevertheless, ABC failed to disclose further details with regard to Paul Harvey’s decease, such as the cause of death.
He was on the air for more than 60 years and became a fixture across the United States in 1951, when he started working for ABC Radio. Offering his daily program from outside Chicago, Paul Harvey used to kick off each show by saying, “Hello, Americans, this is Paul Harvey! Stand by for news!” and conclude with a dynamic “Paul Harvey … good day!”
Moreover, among the two sections, the broadcaster would shed light on several trademark lines that radio listeners expected all the time, such as “Stay tuned for the rest of the story” and “May I have your undivided for just a moment.”
The twice a day radio programs once drew some 22 million listeners. About three years ago, Forbes.com quoted an ABC executive as saying that Paul Harvey had brought in over 10 percent of the network’s $300 million in ad billings.
