The newest person to testify against R. Kelly in his child
pornography trial is the artist’s former personal assistant, Lindsey Perryman.
The 1997 Grammy-award winner charged with 14 counts of child
pornography, pleaded not guilty in the trial that could sentence him to 15
years in prison.
The woman worked for Kelly and his family from 1999 to 2006
and has repeatedly stated that she considers him a great boss who has done nothing
wrong to her during their long-term collaboration.
"I didn't want to think it was them," said
Perryman on Tuesday’s trial, according to the Associated Press, after watching
the 27-minute videotape. Initially, she wasn’t sure that the video featured the
two, but after watching it again she became "110 percent" sure about her
former boss’ presence.
She said that "The image I saw looked exactly like Mr.
Kelly," as quoted by the AP, and added that she also recognized the alleged
victim on tape, especially because of her distinctive features and the way she
moved her mouth, smiled and talked. Perryman met the young woman on several
occasions over the past few years and her testimony might not be dismissed as
easily as some of the rest have been.
According to the prosecutors, the tape was made between 1998
and 2000 and that the young woman videotaped with the artist was born in
September 1984.
Four other Oak Park residents testified that it is Kelly and
the alleged victim on the tape. Kelly's lawyers claim that none was close to
Kelly or the alleged victim by the time the tape surfaced.
