Research In Motion today released the BlackBerry App World, an application store for the RIM smatphones.
The BlackBerry App World does not appear on the device’s desktop, it can be downloaded from the RIM Web site and it installs itself once you downloaded it. The BlackBerry App World is a mix of personal and business applications for its users. It is currently available for BlackBerry users in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. The App World will soon launch for users in several other countries, RIM said.
To download the BlackBerry App World visit www.blackberry.com/appworld from your handset. The App World can be accessed both from Wi Fi and cellular networks.
A keynote from RIM’s Co-CEO and President Mike Lazaridis is expected this morning at CTIA 2009 in Las Vegas in which the executive will highlight the BlackBerry App World.
The home page of the App World features items that show one at a time. Users can check out the top 15 featured apps and the top downloaded apps. The list of featured apps includes apps such as Yahoo Messenger, Facebook, iHeartRadio, Bloomberg, Myspace, AIM, and others.
The apps are grouped in 13 categories such as entertainment, games, maps and navigation, music and video, news and weather, personal finance and banking, personal health and wellness, reference and eBooks, productivity and utilities, social networking and sharing and others. Next to the category name, users should find the number of apps the list includes. Currently, there are about 366 applications, according to Information Week.
