With a title that hasn’t got much in common with the movie whatsoever, "Quantum of Solace," continues the adventures of James Bond (Daniel Craig) in "Casino Royale," that is Bond decimated that his lady love Vespa was killed and now he must avenge her death. The 2006 film brought fame and respect to Craig who succeeded in bringing depth and a modern take to the MI6 super agent.
"Now we're on the back of a success," says the 40-year-old Craig, promoting the movie in a sharp black suit, with a matching sling to heal a shoulder surgery. "So there are different pressures. But there always are. It's a $200 million budget. I don't know how you could do that without a little bit of pressure."
But the lust for revenge turns Bond into a killing machine. M is worried that Bond's judgment is likely to be somewhat affected by his loss or distract him from his assignments, but 007 is nothing if not effective at multitasking. And does he have his hands full, whether tangling with the dastardly Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric) forming a partnership with the lovely Camille (Olga Kurylenko, among the weaker Bond women and certainly a letdown after Eva Green's brainy, biting Vesper Lynd from “Casino Royale,” or seeking help from coolly distant allies Felix Leiter and Mathis (returning co-stars Jeffrey Wright and Giancarlo Giannini).
As far as the U.K. box office is concerned, the action movie dipped a very respectable 40% to take $14.4 million at 541 screens for a running cume of $49.2 million.
One of the keys to this franchise's longevity is each entry's ability to adapt to the times, and “Quantum of Solace is no” exception. However the theme song is just awful, by the way.
