An 86-year-old Queens woman proved to be a harder-than-thought victim. She fought the intruder who broke into her home while she was sleeping in her bed and managed to survive. The invader tried to cover her face with a pillow and slashed her several times as he was trying to kill her.
The invader broke into the woman’s South Jamaica, Queens home shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday. Although she fought for her life and managed to survive the attack, the woman couldn’t stop the villain from stealing her jewelry and all the money she had in her purse.
The woman, identified as retired preschool teacher Vivian Squires, suffered cuts in the back and neck, police officials said. According to a relative of the victim, she was also stabbed in the chest. The woman is currently at the Mary Immaculate Hospital, where she underwent surgery.
She spoke to some of her relatives before the surgery and told them that she was awake when the invader broke into her home. She added that the robber tried to kill her.
“That’s the reason why she was injured, because she struggled,” said Kenneth Adams, the woman’s nephew.
Ms. Squires, a grandmother of two, called 911 shortly after the invader fled in her gold 2004 Chrysler Sebrin sedan, police said.
Police investigators tried to at least find the Ms. Squires’ car, but so far they come up empty-handed.
