Many were uncertain about the fate of the “James Bond” series after Sean Connery said goodbye to the part of the British spy. It was thought that once a character is portrayed by an actor for a couple of years, the transition is everything but smooth.
This theory was proven wrong when Pierce Brosnan decided to take on the challenge and became the new Bond. However, Brosnan also left James Bond without an on-screen face, afraid that he will be unable to play another part.
Once again, some critics thought it was the end of James Bond. The first two actors, for instance, were both dark-haired with brown eyes. One would think the makers would have wanted a similar actor. Instead, the fair-haired, blue-eyed Daniel Craig was chosen to impersonate the spy in “Casino Royale”.
The movie was a success, mostly because the majority of the audience was curious to see how the actor chose to bring James Bond to life once again. He must have done a pretty good job, as the second James Bond movie he starred in, “Quantum of Solace”, earned 15.4 million pounds at the box office on its opening alone. In U.S. dollars, the total amount is of approximately 25 million.
The previous record was held by “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”, amounting to 14.9 million pounds. Those who have seen “Casino Royale” must have spread the woprd about Craig’s performance, as “Solace” surpassed Craig’s first movie at the box office.
“Quantum of Solace”, the 22nd official Bond movie, premiered on Friday in Britain and is scheduled to open on November 14th in the United States, distributed by Columbia Pictures, part of Sony Corporation.
