“Quantum Of Solace": Record Earnings, But Not As Large As Reported Sunday

Even though Sunday, Columbia Pictures proudly announced that the new James Bond movie “Quantum of Solace” had registered record earnings of $70.4 million over its debut week-end, it now appears that it was only half true. Indeed, „Solace” outran all the other Bond movies where opening profit is concerned, but the amount was not the one reported by the film production and distribution company on Sunday.

According to more recent estimates, the 22nd installment of the 007 agent series has sold $67.5 million worth of tickets during the first three days since it debuted in United States theaters on November 14.

Which still puts it on top of the list and renders it to steal „Die Another Day’s” thunder, which has until now held the record in terms of opening earnings with $47.1 million within its first week-end back in November 2002. Moreover, the earnings made „Solace” to exceed the amount movie industry experts had forecast for the production, which they estimated at $60 million.

Even though „Quantum of Solace” did not actually manage to surpass the $70 million threshold, the second Bond movie of the franchise to star Daniel Craig as 007 is doing very well in terms of box-office profit. And not just in the U.S, but in every other market it debuted in since it was first released in the United Kingdom on October 31st.

Over the last two weeks, „Solace” earned more than $250 million overseas, the worldwide total having been reported at $322 million, which brings it very close to the 2006 Bond movie „Casino Royale” that ranked at $594 million two years ago during its first week-end.
