Pure Digital unveiled another member of its Flip line of ultra-compact digital camcorders. The new Flip Mino is smaller than the Flip Ultra and features the ability to easily share videos on YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and the sort.
The new gadget builds on the success of its predecessor, which managed to snatch an alleged market share of 20 percent from its competitors. The device is definitely targeted at people who do not really need excellent video quality, and are willing to trade that for ease of use and portability.
The Flip camcorders have no optical zoom and capture modest videos, about that same quality as a low-end digital camera (at about the same price). This brings about the question why would somebody want a Flip Mino over a digital camera which can also take great pictures. The answer is ease of use. Pure Digital focused on keeping their gadget as low in features as possible, which means as simple as it gets. There's also the size factor.
The Flip Mino is offering a cleaner and more elegant look, a rechargeable Li-ion battery, touch-sensitive buttons and a thinner appearance, being about 40 percent smaller than the previous Flip camcorder.
The device makes it very easy for users to edit their videos, as reviewing and trimming only take a few minutes. It also features a lock button for the delete option in order to avoid the accidental delete of videos and a mute option for all camera sounds useful for recording during speeches, weddings or other quiet events.
The screen size is the same as Flip Ultra’s, 1.5 inches and the price is set at $180.
