Pure Digital Inc. released yesterday its new Flip Mino HD
camcorder. Just as its popular previous version, it easily fits in a pocket and
weighs 3.3 ounces. It can record up to 60 minutes of high definition video and
the content can be uploaded to a computer using a USB connector. It can also be
directly connected to a TV set.
The content is stocked on the device’s 4 Giga Byte memory card
and can be played back on its 1.5 inch screen. The Flip HD contains recording, playback, fast
forward, rewind, pause and delete buttons, making it easy for anyone to capture
a certain event.
The previous version is still available in stores for $180,
while the new Flip HD can be purchased for $230. The reason why the company
decided to come out with an improved version is because the device managed to
quickly become extremely popular, selling more than 1.5 million units since its
launch. At this point, Pure Digital holds 24 percent of the entire camcorder
market.
"Consumers have embraced Flip Video because it delivers
on the promise of making video simple, affordable, and fun," explained
Jonathan Kaplan, Pure Digital's chairperson and chief executive, in a statement,
adding that "Flip Mino HD, along with our new FlipShare software, now make
it easy for anyone to capture and share their stories in stunning HD quality."
The included FlipShare software lets users edit their
content, send it through e-mails or quickly upload it on Web sites such as
YouTube and MySpace.
