John Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston, organized a private memorial service on Thursday in the memory of their son, Jett, who died last Friday at the family’s vacation home in the Bahamas. The 16-year-old was found unconscious on the bathroom floor, but by the time they took him to the hospital, he died.
The memorial service was very intimate, as security staff was guarding the house from the media. It took place at the Florida home of Travolta and Preston, where they gathered all their friends and family to mourn the 16-year-old teen.
The boy died because of a seizure, or at least that is what his death certificate says, caused by the Kawasaki syndrome Jett was suffering since he was 2 years old. His death brought waves of condolences from John Travolta’s fans, who wished to be there and ease the family pain.
Tom Cruise, also a member of the Church of Scientology, just like Travolta and Preston, discussed on Thursday the Travolta’s loss of their beloved son. Cruise told in an interview for “The View” television show that the whole situation is “horrific.” Before his words stuck to his throat, the actor had said that they didn’t deserve this and that they loved Jett so much.
The history of seizures of the boy, his Kawasaki syndrome mystery and the family keeping away the press and releasing very little information about Jett’s death, makes a lot of people believe that behind this story there’s more than the eye can see.
Some friends even said that the boy had some disabilities and that they had never heard him speaking. Anne Archer, an actress and friend of Travolta’s, told People magazine that she had noticed Jett was “significantly mentally handicapped." But she added that his parents loved him just the way he was and didn’t treat him as an abnormal child.
