“Prison Break” Will Reach To An End This Spring

All good things must come to an end and this is true especially for TV series. After four years, “Prison Break” will end this spring with a two-hour series finale. For the moment, “Prison Break” is on break after its December season debut, but as Fox announced the show will return on Friday, April 17 for its final run of six episodes.

“It's the right move for "Prison Break" and its fans”, said Kevin Reilly, Fox entertainment president. Kevin Reilly denied that the show was canceled due to its low ratings. "We didn't give it the hook," Reilly said. "The show just played out”.

While this news might be a disappointment for the fans of the series let’s not forget that “Prison Break” has started as a 13-episode run on August 29, but it was extended due to its popularity.

“Prison Break” is created by Paul T. Scheuring, who is executive producer along with Matt Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, Dawn Parouse, Neal H. Moritz, Kevin Hooks and Brett Ratner. Adelson-Parouse Prods. produces with 20th Century Fox TV.

“Prison Break” has enjoyed good ratings as well as critical acclaim. It has received Golden Globe, Emmy and People’s Choice nominations, among others, taking home the 2005 People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama.

In 2006 Miller was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series for his work on “Prison Break”. The story is centered on the saga of two brothers. Lincoln Burrows  (Dominic Purcell) is wrongfully accused of murder and sentenced to death. Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) is convinced that his brother is innocent and he elaborates an escape plan to get him out of prison.

While the first season is centered on this escape attempt and in the next three seasons the brothers were on the run and involved in a fight against The Company, the shadowy group responsible for destroying their lives.

Along the way, Michael Scofield falls in love with Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies), his prison doctor. “Prison Break” has become famous for its numerous plot twists and its alert rhythm.

However, the number of average viewers has drooped from season to season. While the first season has registered 12.1 million average viewers, the fourth had only 6.1 million.

Similar to other famous TV shows, like “24” or “Lost” has a serialized structure, which made it an ideal candidate for a DVD release. In fact the first three seasons were already released on DVD and Blu Ray.
