Presenting Sony's Big Plans For 2008

At the E3 08 press conference held in the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, once Microsoft and Nintendo finished their presentations, Sony came forward with its upcoming plans.

Jack Tretton, CEO and president of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, was the one leading the discussions, presenting 2008 as the year of the PlayStation. He explained that last year’s efforts were focused on the technology of the PS3 while 2008 will involve a lot more work on the software.

The company’s main theme for this year’s press conference was for everyone to "just wait."

Discussing the rather slow PS3 adoption process, Mr. Tretton reminded everyone that the exact same thing happened with the PlayStation and the PlayStation 2, both recording their greatest hits during the second part of their lives, with games such as Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto, God of War II and Gran Turismo.

The presentation included a CG God of War III teaser and a pictured preview of Zipper Interactive’s MAG: Massive Action Game which will allow 256 players to take part in some massive battle scenes.

There were also offered details about the company’s 80 GB PlayStation 3 Core Pack which will be available as the new standard PS3 system at the price of $399.99 and the new PlayStation Video service which allows users to purchase or rent TV shows and movies in SD or HD.

Other topics referred to the PlayStation Home, Gran Turismo TV, plus a series of new game including Resistance: Retribution, Loco Roco 2, Patapon 2 and Super Stardust Portable.

The company has big plans for 2008 which are also confirmed by the announcement of Playstation 3’s Greatest Hits collection and the Limited-edition LEGO Batman: The Videogame PlayStation 2 Pack.
