The Friday box office figures have arrived and there seems to be no good news for 'X-Files: I want to Believe.' While the producers wanted to believe that their movie will make people come and watch it, they now have to taste disappointment, as the film ranked only fourth according to the Box Office Mojo charts.
The second X-Files movie managed to unearth only about $4 million, and I personally think that its creators should really think twice before planning another film in the series. Friday was dominated again by 'The Dark Knight' who made over $23 million a week after its official release. The figure is almost six times higher than X-Files' and tacking into consideration that movies tend to make most money during the first three days since their release, it's hard to believe that the latest Mulder and Scully film will see better revenues in the future.
Even though the TV series that inspired the movie had been a tremendously popular one, the six years that have passed since it was discontinued have left it without a lot of its fans. Add that to the rather poor reviews that the movie got and you have the explanation for why the film went so bad during the first day of its release.
I feel sorry for lack of success of 'X-Files: I want to believe,' since I was a fan of the TV series and I really hoped that the movie will determine more people to go watch it. But I have to admit the fact that its creators could have done a better job and make it more interesting than how it turned out to be.
