Police Pursue New Tracks In Case of Missing Florida Girl

Investigators are following several new tracks in the case of a missing 5-year-old girl in Florida, officials announced on Tuesday.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office investigated on Monday night the neighborhood where Haleigh Ann-Marie Cummings, who disappeared approximately a week ago, lives. Moreover, deputies searched throughout the adjacent neighborhoods as well.

Authorities said that the little girl might have been kidnapped, but would not disclose further information with regard to the leads they are currently pursuing.

“Those leads, like I said, are as a result of doing the neighborhood canvass last night, and we will be following up on those leads today,” Capt. Steve Rose of the Putnam Sheriff’s Office explained.

Ever since they opened the case about a week ago, authorities have received over 1,200 tips about Haleigh Ann-Marie Cummings, 500 of which they obtained throughout the past couple of days, Putnam County Sheriff Rick Ryan said, as cited by the CNN.

The sheriff’s office announced on Tuesday afternoon that they modified the Amber Alert that had initially been put out for the girl, explaining that the description of Haleigh’s clothing had been changed.

Dominick Pape with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said that officials wanted people to concentrate on the little girl’s face, because they were uncertain what clothing Haleigh had been wearing at the time of her disappearance.

Ronald Cummings’ girlfriend, 17-year-old Misty Croslin, informed police that she was watching the little girl when she vanished sometime before dawn on February 10.
Haleigh’s dad shares his Satsuma double-wide mobile home with his girlfriend, 5-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son. He told police that when he came back home at approximately 3 a.m. ET, he found Misty Croslin awake and asked her why she had not went to bed. Croslin waited until Ronald Cummings arrived home to phone 911 and report the girl’s disappearance, in spite of the fact that it is unknown for how long she waited. Officials said last week that Croslin had tucked Haleigh and her brother into bed at about 8 p.m. and went to sleep sometime around 10. The kids and Croslin generally share the same bed.

Officials announced that they initially believed the little girl might have gone outside on her own, but that they are now convinced she has been abducted.

Thus, investigators are examining various approaches of the case, such as discovering the location of dozens of sexual offenders who love within a 5-mile radius of the Cummings family home, explained Lt. Johnny Greenwood of the Putnam Sheriff’s Office, according to the CNN.

An Amber Alert that was released across the country said Haleigh was last seen wearing a pink shirt and underwear.
