Police identified three people who were killed when their car plunged into a river in Rumney (New Hampshire) Sunday morning.

The car reportedly missed a turn on Buffallo Road and plunged 25 feet into the Baker River, after crashing into several trees on its way down the embankment.

Police have identified the three victims as 19-year-old Brandy Duguay, 19-year-old Matthew Milton, both from Thornton, and 24-year-old Jason Marrer, from Holderness. Police believes the latter was the driver of the 1998 red Toyota Corolla. He was apparently driving too fast, and that might have been the cause of the accident.

State Police Sgt. Robert Terhune said rescue personnel were notified of the crash around 9 a.m. by people who had seen or heard the crash.

Police initially thought there were only two passengers in the car, but when they managed to pull the wrecked car out of the water, they discovered there were actually three victims.

People who witnessed the accident went into the water and tried to save the victims, but it was too late. One of the victims was pulled out from the partially submerged vehicle, but died on the way to hospital.

The wrecked car was pulled out from the river at about 11:30 a.m.
