Police investigators finally got a hold of a suspect in the case of the television anchorwoman who was beaten to death in her Arkansas home. The arrest of the suspect ends weeks of investigations without suspects of the brutal murder.
The suspected murderer was identified as Curtis Lavelle Vance, 28. He was arrested at a home in Little Rock on Wednesday night. Police investigators were tipped to the suspect’s location.
"We went there and he's in custody," said Lt. Terry Hastings, a police spokesman.
Vance has been charged with capital murder in the death of anchorwoman Anne Pressly, known for having a small part in the President George W. Bush biopic "W." Pressly died on October 25 in the hospital, five days after she was found savagely beaten in her home in the city's Pulaski Heights section.
Vance was named as the main suspect in the death of Anne Pressly on Wednesday night in a news conference held by police officials. Soon after the news conference, an anonymous source tipped the police officers to the suspect’s location. Authorities said the suspect was traveling with a woman, three kids, a pistol and "lots of extra ammunition." He was not armed when arrested, police said.
Police Chief Stuart Thomas said that the capital murder charge was based on "a very, very solid case due to solid detective work." Authorities said that the killer lived in Marianna, eastern Arkansas, but he has many contacts in central Arkansas.
Police had a general idea about the suspect after using the DNA and other evidence from the murder scene, but did not have a name until recently. Investigators had a recording of Vance when he was using one of the victim’s credit cards, but the image wasn’t clear enough.
Anne Pressly was found half-hour before she was due on KATV's "Daybreak" program by her mother who was in town visiting but she wasn’t staying in the same home. Pressly’s mother found her savagely beaten. She had severe wounds to her head and torso and she never regained consciousness since then. Pressly was declared dead a few days later.
Anne Presley was born in Greenville,
S.C., but moved with her parents to Little
Rock while she was still a high school student. She
was a political science graduate of Rhodes
College in Memphis
and began working for the television station in 2004.
