Poison drummer Rikki Rockett was arrested in Los Angeles LAX Airport on Monday on an outstanding warrant for rape in Neshoba County, Mississippi. His case was reportedly turned over to the district's attorney's office for possible grand jury consideration, Associated Press reported.
The 46-year-old musician, whose real name is Richard Ream, had just arrived in LA from New Zealand, where he performed with other Poison members at the heavy metal show Rock2Wellington.
According to police reports, the rocker was taken into custody and transported to the Los Angeles County Jail were he was booked on a felony fugitive sexual assault warrant stemming from a forcable rape complaint, Neshoba sheriff's investigator Ralph Sciple said Friday. He said the alleged rape occurred Sept. 23, 2007, at the Silver Star Casino in Philadelphia.
"The subject, Rikki Rockett, forcibly had sex with an adult in one of the hotel rooms," according to a complaint.
Sciple said the woman, from Neshoba County, told authorities shortly after the incident that she met Rockett at the hotel's casino and the rape occurred in his hotel room.
"He registered at the casino as Minskoff," Sciple said.
The authorities said Rockett has no criminal background and he was not at the casino to perform. Sciple refused to disclose further details of the alleged sexual assault.
Rckett was set free the following afternoon after Mississippi law enforcement decided not to extradite him, pending official charges from the Neshoba County District Attorney, TMZ reported.
Formerly known as Paris, Poison was formed in 1984 by singer Bret Michaels, bassist Bobby Dall, guitarist Matt Smith and drummer Rikki Rockett. They were joined by Guitarist C.C. DeVille after Smith left the group. The group was signed to Enigma Records in 1986, and soon released their first album, "Look What the Cat Dragged In." The record, spawning hits like "I Want Action," "Talk Dirty to Me," and "I Won't Forget You," was a surprise success, selling two-million copies within a year following its release.
