When asked if they were going to celebrate their Academy Awards nominations, actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie said that they would not do anything special to mark the occasion because they wanted to spend time with their six children.
Jolie received a nod for Best Actress for her role in “Challenging,” while Pitt got a Best Actor nomination for his portrayal of Benjamin Button in David Fincher’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
The latter movie has topped the Oscar nods’ list with thirteen nominations, including one for best picture, having been followed by Danny Boyle’s „Slumdog Millionaire” with 10 nominations, while „Milk” earned eight nods, including best picture, best director for Gus Van Sant, best actor for Sean Penn and best supporting actor Josh Brolin.
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” tells the story of a man born in is eighties who begins aging backwards, managing to elude the natural flow of time and turn into a middle-aged man who falls in love with a dancer named Daisy, portrayed by Cate Blanchett.
Drawing on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the production has taken decades to complete, after several directors came to be interested in the project, including Steven Spielberg.
Speaking of his Academy Award nomination, Pitt said that it was a testament to director David Fincher who had invested years of his life into the movie.
Pitt earned his last Oscar nod back in 1996, for a supporting role in „Twelve Monkeys.”
