Pitcher Geremis González Was Struck Dead by Lightning

Geremis/Geremi González, misspelled as Jeremi Gonzalez before his 2006 transfer to the Brewers, was killed yesterday in Punta Palma, Zulia, Venezuela by lightning. He was on at the beach and was standing on a pier when lightning struck him Sunday night.

González, 33, played for the Chicago Cubs (1997-1998), the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2003-2004), the Boston Red Sox (2005), the New York Mets (2006) and the Milwaukee Brewers (2006). Last year he played for the Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Central League.

The pitcher's best performance was while with the Cubs. "The organization sends its heartfelt condolences to his family," the Chicago Cubs wrote in a statement.

His career Win-Loss record is 30-35 and his earned run average (ERA) is 4.93. He also caused 354 strikeouts. González was right-handed.
