Pink Floyd's Roger Waters Playing Coachella 2008

This year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival will benefit from the participation of some big names, including former Pink Floyd songwriter and singer Roger Waters who will take the stage on the event’s last day on Sunday, April 27.

The 2008 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival will spread over three days in late April in the desert town of Indio, in southern California and tickets to the event go on sale this Friday, (Jan. 25). This year’s line-up was announced Monday by the event’s organizers.

Music lovers willing to brave the heat, the dust, the insects and crowding, will have the pleasure of hearing the following musicians perform on Friday, April 25, the first day of the festival: Jack Johnson, The Verve, Raconteurs and Fatboy Slim, along with Madness, The Swell Season, The National and Does it Offend you, Yeah?, among others.

Saturday’s performers include reunited electronica band Portishead, Kraftwerk, Death Cab for Cutie, Cafe Tacuba, Rilo Kiley, Dwight Yoakam, M.I.A., Flogging Molly, Mark Ronson, Dredg and Grand Ole Party, as well as many more.

Roger Waters, former songwriter, lead vocalist and bassist with legendary rock group Pink Floyd, will perform his band's opus “Dark Side of the Moon” in its entirety on Sunday, April 27, followed by artists such as Gogol Bordello, Autolux, Dmitri from Paris, The Cool Kids, Sons & Daughters, Sia, Morning Jacket, Spiritualized and Plastiscines.

This is the ninth year that the Coachella music festival takes place and only the second to include three days of performances. Artists participating in 2007 were the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a reunited Rage Against the Machine, a reunited the Jesus and Mary Chain featuring Scarlett Johansson, Bjork and former Pulp-frontman Jarvis Cocker.

The desert was a big enough place to fit everyone and people crowded, despite the excruciating heat.

The first Coachella festival was held in October 1999. Over the years, the event has attracted huge acts, such as The Cure, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Iggy Pop, The Beastie Boys, The Chemical Brothers, Coldplay and Nine Inch Nails.

Tickets for this year’s festival go on sale Friday, priced at $269 for all three days, or $90 for a single day. Service fees apply.

Monday’s announcement from Coachella promoter Goldenvoice included the news that a three-day festival would be launched on August 8-10 at Liberty State Park in New Jersey, dubbed All Points West Music & Arts Festival. The lineup will be announced in the following weeks.
