One thing you can say about the 'Pineapple Express' is that the movie is hilarious. The Rogen-Goldberg-Apatow team doesn't let viewers down and does what everybody has come to expect of it: takes a comedy type that usually generates movies with a broad audience but with little critical acclaim, and creates an intelligent and hilarious film that in the end is all about the importance and the discovery of true friendship.
Take for example the team's last comedy, 'Superbad.' It worked on the frame of teenage comedies, only that it made the teenagers' attempt at losing their virginity look like an epic quest. In the end the two friends in the movie realize how much their friendship means to one another, an idea that transpires from all of Seth Rogen's films.
The 'Pineapple Express' tells the story of drug dealer Saul, portrayed by James Franco, and Dale Denton (Seth Rogen), his number one customer, as they accidentally find themselves in a situation in which they have to escape from the thugs hired by a important drug dealer in order to stay alive.
It all starts as Dale buys a very potent type of marijuana from Saul. The drug, called Pineapple Express, is so good, that lighting it up feels like 'killing an unicorn,' as Saul describes it. Dale then gets high and accidentally witnesses the local drug lord Ted Jones and his crooked cop girlfriend Carol kill a man.
Dale gets panicked and drops a roach of Pineapple Express. This is all the drug lord needs to start tracking him and his dealer down. The two must now do everything to stay alive, and in their attempt they get into all kinds of hilarious situations that keep the public laughing throughout the entire movie.
