According to Variety.com, the actor and director Peter Berg has
signed up to direct a new movie adaptation of the 1965’s novel “Dune”.
David Lynch formerly turned the novel into a movie in 1984
but it did not have the expected success. In addition, in 2000 a mini series based
on the same book were produced for SciFi Channel.
Even if the remakes have not always been successful in Hollywood, films as King
Kong, Halloween, Godzilla being obvious examples, it seems that the Paramount
Pictures is ready to put its money behind the new project.
Peter Berg has directed the successful movies “The Kingdom
and “Friday Night Lights”. Berg’s upcoming movie, “Hancock”, starring Will
Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman is scheduled to be released on July 2,
this year.
Berg became famous after playing the role of Dr, Billy Cronk
in the TV series “Chicago Hope”.
Kevin Misher, Sarah Aubrey and Richard Rubenstein will
produce the new “Dune”. Rubinstein is also the one that produced also the 2003 mini
series “Children of Dune”, which were based on Herbert’s “Dune Messiah” and “Children
of Dune”.
Although Paramount Pictures found a director and producers
they are still looking for original writers to create a unique story, based on
the tale set on the desert planet Arrakis.
