Pete Doherty Released from London Jail

Rock musician Pete Doherty was released Tuesday, May 6, from a London jail where he had been serving time for breaking his probation.

Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty was released early from prison Tuesday morning, after having served only 29 days of a 14-week sentence. The Associated Press reports the reason for his early release is not yet known.

Doherty, 29, was sentenced after breaking his probation by reportedly being late for several probation appointments.

Doherty talked to NME.com after leaving Wormwood Scrubs, confessing that the time spent inside was difficult but that being spared of the remaining 18 days was a relief.

“I got trouble from the start, from the inmates and the guards, mainly shouting at night really... It was 18-day early release – I can't complain really.”

The singer also alleged he did not use drugs while behind bars. Drug use has long been associated with his name and has also landed him in court before. Last year, he pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis, as well as a variety of driving offenses.

“I managed to stay clean. I got my certificate. I was going to Sellotape it to the wall, but they wouldn't give me any Sellotape,” he told NME. “Did I take heroin inside? Complete rubbish. The prison didn't release statements – it's their policy to ignore it rather than acknowledge it [media reports].”

Doherty, who is perhaps best known to the public for his former relationship and engagement to Kate Moss, also confessed he was segregated from the general population as numerous drug dealers were due money from him.

“I was in segregation for the last three weeks. They call it the block. Supposedly I was in debt to loads of big time drug dealers. All I'll say to that is: chance would be a fine thing.”
