People More Satisfied By iPhone

Research In Motion’s blackberry Storm was supposed to be an iPhone killer, a phone intended to provide a decent challenge for Apple’s ever so popular touchscreen phone.  Everyone knows that it wasn’t and in a recent survey people interviewed about how happy they are with their phones give a pretty good date on the subject.

Just 33% of new Storm owners, for example, said they were "very satisfied" with the touch-screen smart phone, compared to 77% of iPhone owners who said the same thing in a July 2008 survey ChangeWave conducted less than a month after Apple launched the iPhone 3G.

The most noticeable thing at The Storm is that it doesn’t have a physical keyboard, though Research In Motion could have included one like we can see in HTC’s G1, which leaves all the focus on the touch keys. The phone is out on a market for two weeks and has been widely criticized by everybody.

The Storm utilizes a system, called SurePress, where the entire screen of the phone acts like the button of a mouse. In theory this sounds great, but in practice, the whole thing seems slow and inefficient. Storm feels like the kind of device which was rushed out on the market, without being tested enough; it seems unfinished and buggy.

Fortunately, BlackBerry is doing just fine and it would be unfair to associate it only with the Storm. BlackBerry is reliable and has a good name and reputation at making good phones. They just couldn’t produce a true iPhone killer.
