About 43 people remained homeless after
a massive fire started Thursday in building eight at Dearborn
housing complex from Peabody.
According to The Daily Item of
Lynn, Fire Chief Steven Pasdon and State Fire Marshal
Stephen Coan said that the people from the building have been evacuated and no
one was hurt except for some pets that were believed to have died in the fire.
Authorities said that the cause of the
fire could have been a gas line in the basement of a building. The fire
started at building 8 of the complex and could have quickly spread to the other
buildings if the firefighters hadn’t put it down.
Even Middleton helped by sending an 8,000-gallon tanker
truck, so that the firefighters have enough water.
The housing complex will be closed
overnight so that the crews could restore gas, electric and sewer service.
The people who lost their homes were
crying as they realized the gravity of the situation. The residents form other
units were evacuated as a safety measure.
According to WBZ, the thick, black smoke could be seen all
the way from Boston, Woburn
and Newburyport.
Authorities have closed Dearborn Avenue and
traffic on Route 128 and Route 1 was also closed.
