'American Idol' judge Paula Abdul is still dealing with the death of her fan, who committed suicide last month near the singer's home, and decided to sell her house and move into a gated community.
It's been three weeks since Paula Goodspeed, a fan who auditioned for "American Idol's" fifth season, committed suicide in her car parked right outside Abdul's home, and the singer is so shaken up she hasn't spent one night there following the incident.
"I've been staying in different homes and hotels, and I have security with me," Abdul told People.
Speaking about her stalker nightmare which ended tragically on November 11, Abdul told the ladies of ABC's "The View" that she is grateful she wasn't at home when the whole thing happened. Goodspeed sent Abdul flowers before taking a suspected drug overdose in her car outside the gates of Abdul's Sherman Oaks, Calif., estate on November 11. She was found dead in her car surrounded by CDs and pictures of Abdul.
"It was extremely tragic... I was at Hollywood Week for American Idol when it happened. The crew knew but waited to tell me until I was done taping the show. But I had a premonition. I knew something was going on," she said.
Apparently, Goodspeed had been stalking the singer for 17 years, mainly operating through fan clubs and managed to reach Abdul when "American Idol" started.
"Because of 'American Idol,' I've been an open target to be followed home. So the last five years have been a little tough for me," Abdul confessed. Goodspeed previously attempted to commit suicide but survived.
Currently involved in several projects, including an MTV cheerleading show and a line of jewelry for the Home Shopping Network, Abdul says that once her schedule clears out a little she plans to sell her home and start looking for a new place to live.
"Paula simply feels she has outgrown her house," a spokesman for Abdul told Us Weekly. "And given the recent public disclosure of her address, it seemed time that she move into a gated community."
