"I've never been drunk. I have never done recreational drugs," the American Idol judge has stated, amidst rumors about alcohol-caused incoherence on the show.
Paula’s been under a bit of scrutiny lately, as more and more viewers are surprised and confused about her behavior on the talent show. Not long ago the singer was blaming her apparent incoherence on technical problems.
The 44-year-old Idol judge has responded to the recent unflattering claims by telling US Weekly that there’s no truth behind these rumors.
“Just look at my 20-year career. Tell me someone who is into partying or doing drugs that could have done that?”
“There have been 100 million lies about me,” the singer/choreographer says. “I'm squeaky clean. I've worked my ass off my entire life. (But) being involved in the show causes people to question everything.”
Paula has also said that she has taken prescription medication for health problems, including inflammatory arthritis. This has not affected her work though.
“I have never missed a live show,” the singer emphasized. “Even when I had surgery on my hand (for an infection caused by a manicure-gone-wrong in 2004), I left my hospital bed to go to the show.”
Last year, Fox announced that Paula Abdul signed a deal to continue ‘judging’ alongside Simon Cowell on American Idol until 2008.
