Although Patrick Swayze is keeping mum since the news about his cancer broke out, the actor's mother, among other family members and friends, spoke out about his illness.
"He doesn’t deserve to get this," Patrick’s 81-year-old mother, Patsy, told the National Enquirer. "He just doesn’t deserve it. He’s got such a big heart. He’s been such a good and generous and thoughtful person. It breaks my heart to know he’s suffering. But he bears it and he’s determined to beat this. He’s hanging in there and getting the best treatment he can."
Last week, it was reported that the 55-year-old "Dirty Dancing" star was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which had spread throughout his body and he was given only five more weeks to live. However, according to his doctors, Swayze is responding well to the treatment.
He is currently undergoing a four-week cycle of chemotherapy. He is also taking the experimental drug Vatalanib to cut off the blood supply to the tumor. Additionally, Swayze is on a high-fat diet to combat weight loss.
New details about the actor's battle with pancreatic cancer emerged, along with the first pictures of him, which unfortunately show him smoking. The photos were reportedly taken at an airport in northern California.
According to Galina Espinoza, a senior editor at People magazine, Swayze’s battle with pancreatic cancer began five weeks ago.
"He noticed that he had lost some weight and was looking a little jaundiced so he decided to go and get himself checked out," Espinoza said.
As soon as Swayze and his wife, Lisa Niemi, 51, learned the diagnosis, they took some time to deal with the news. "But he's moving forward," says Maria Scouros, a Houston oncologist who is married to Lisa's brother, Edmond. "Both of them are very focused on doing what they have to do, following through with his medical team's recommendations so he can have a good outcome."
Patrick’s brother, Don Swayze told People magazine the "Ghost" star was "a warrior" and he would keep fighting the cancer.
"There have been a lot of rumors swirling that Swayze had lost all of his hair, that he had gotten really gaunt. None of this, says his brother Don, is true," Galina Espinoza added.
"This is a guy that tackles everything head on," Espinoza explained. "He does not show fear."
