Contrary to a huge mass of reports claiming that actor Patrick Swayze has stopped receiving medical treatment for his pancreatic cancer, the rumor is not true, his rep said.
“The reports are not true. Patrick is continuing his treatment,” the actor’s rep, Annett Wolf, said.
According to a recent National Enquirer report, the 56-year-old, who revealed he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer last year, interrupted his treatment after doctors told him they couldn't stop the disease's progress. “There's nothing more doctors can do for him,” the Enquirer quoted a family friend as saying.
On Thursday, Swayze’s 81-year-old mother, Patsy also shot down the claim saying she would know if her son would have stopped the treatment.
“I wish they would just leave him alone,” Patsy said, adding that his son is currently “doing as well as he can.”
The “Dirty Dancing” star was diagnosed twelve months ago with pancreatic cancer, one of the most virulent forms of the disease, but while medical experts say most patients have less than six months to live after their diagnosis, Swayze appeared optimistic and upbeat in recent interviews. Just weeks ago after similar false reports, he told People that he was “alive and plan on continuing to stay that way.”
The actor did admit in an interview with Barbara Walters that the treatment has put him through hell, but he was not ready to give in yet. Earlier this month, Swayze suffered a setback when he was admitted to hospital with pneumonia.
