Actor Patrick Swayze, who recently revealed that his battle with pancreatic has put him "through hell," has been hospitalized for pneumonia, according to People. He reportedly checked himself in for observation after coming down with the disease.

The announcement was made by A&E president Abbe Raven during a press event for the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles on Friday.

"As we arrived here this morning we have some news," Raven said. "Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today's panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery."

The actor was expected to be present at the conference to discuss his role in A&E's highly anticipated series, "The Beast," where he plays an undercover FBI agent. The series also stars Travis Kimmel as Swayze's character's partner.

Not long ago, Swayze said reports about the severity of his condition were exaggerated, but he obviously has a weakened immune system due to chemotherapy, and that leaves a person very exposed to viruses.

However, a close source to the actor told People that even though he felt really bad he couldn't attend the press conference, he's "fighting and doing well, and that's all anybody can hope for at this stage. He is not at death's door. Nobody ever knows with cancer, but he's doing alright."

The actor's co-stars are also very supportive and hopeful that Swayze will defeat his disease although the actor himself recently admitted in his first televised interview since being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early last year that he has around two more years to live.

Still, he denied being on his death bed and seemed determined to fight his disease for as long as possible. He's already proven he's tough since doctors said stage 4 pancreatic cancer is usually fatal within six months.
