Clay Aiken might have set a trend, and no, I’m not talking
about coming out of the closet on the cover of People magazine. It seems that
after the pop star’s success as the runner up in American Idol’s second season,
more and more finalists became more successful (and certainly more famous) than
some of the winners.
Paris Bennett, for instance, fits the Aiken profile, not to
mention that she also gave birth recently, while Clay Aiken has recently become
the world’s most honest dad.
Paris was a
contestant on the fifth season of American Idol, and her voice and performance
at the auditions got her many compliments, even one from Simon Cowell, who was
relieved that a true singer had finally walked through the doors. Later on,
Cowell admitted that Paris was his
favorite in the season.
Although her overall performances were highly
appreciated by the jury and the guest-jurors, she was always placed in the
bottom three, and was finally eliminated, going to the bottom of the top five
finalists. She returned to the finals and performed a duet with Al Jarreau on
stage – the song was “We’re In This Love Together.” Paris seems to be doing
well with songs from other decades, as during the show she most successfully
performed “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” (Hollywood auditions), “Midnight Train to
Georgia”, “Wind Beneath My Wings”, “Fever”, “How Do I Live”, “The Show Must Go
On” and Prince’s “Kiss”. The artist was present at the final show and kissed Paris
on the cheek, as a thank you for her performance.
Now aged 20 (she was 17 when she entered Idol), Paris
gave birth to a baby girl on Monday. Amateur MTV “numerologists” noticed a
striking reoccurrence of the number 5 of multiples of 5. Firstly, Paris
appeared on Idol’s fifth season and she finished fifth. Her daughter’s name – Egypt
– has 5 letters, just like her own name – Paris.
Egypt was born
after a 5 hour labor, and weighed 5
pounds and 15
ounces.
