Troubled pop star Britney Spears has not regained control over her affairs. Los Angeles Court Commissioner Reva Goetz granted the 26-year-old singer’s father, Jamie Spears, extended temporary conservatorship over the singer’s estate on Thursday.
This decision remains in place at least until their next court meeting, which will take place on March 10th. Goetz made this decision because a psychiatric report on Britney, due Wednesday, had not yet been submitted, People.com reports.
Moreover, her 30-year-old brother Bryan Spears, along with his attorney Ivan Taback, were named co-trustees. Court papers specified that trust funds are used “to pay for Britney's continued security, and to pay for her medicine, food, other day-to-day expenses and for psychiatric and other medical services,” People reports.
Britney’s brother is also interested in being her manager, according to E! Online. If he succeeds in doing that, it won’t be his first time as the pop star’s manager, as he used to have this same job some years ago.
Another issue that Jamie Spears faces is the restraining order against Sam Lutfi, Britney’s self-proclaimed (now former) manager. The singer’s mother has expressed her belief that Lutfi attempted to take control over Britney’s life, feeding her drugs and isolating her from the outside world by cutting her phone lines and not allowing her access to her own cars.
Papa Spears says Lutfi has not been served the restraining order yet; it prohibits him from any direct or indirect contact with Britney. The dubious Lutfi seems to be “intentionally avoiding service,” Spears’ attorney, Jeryll Cohen, has said.
Perhaps Britney’s world is safer now, with Lutfi at least momentarily out of the picture and manager Howard Grossman now a character of the past, after Spears senior told Goetz that he did not follow his directions regarding Britney’s wellbeing. She has however been spotted out and about with paparazzi-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib.
Brit Brit has also been keeping busy with dancing. Earlier this week, she treated a handful of children with a surprise dance lesson at the Millennium Dance Complex in Hollywood. The dance complex’s director told reported that Britney had been charming and that at the end of the class the little ones gathered around and hugged her.
Britney meanwhile has lost custody of her own two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, to ex-husband Kevin Federline.
One “legal insider” told People magazine that the 26-year-old mother of two, who was diagnosed as suffering from severe bipolar disorder during her recent stay at the UCLA Medical Center’s psychiatry ward, is receiving proper care.
“She's getting proper medical care and has professional security. The chaos has been removed from the situation,” the unnamed source said.
