Sprint will deliver to its customers their favorite songs
through their own personalized “DJ”, based on the online music service Pandora.
According to Sprint, Pandora is now available on five Sprint Power Vision
phones: the FUSIC by LG, A900 and A920 by Samsung, and 7500 and 8400 by Sanyo
Pandora, a online music service, is based on proprietary
system called Music Genome Project that utilizes highly trained musicians to
analyze songs one at a time. These musicians identify hundreds of different
musical qualities of each recording, including melody, harmony, rhythm,
instrumentation, orchestration, arrangement, lyrics and vocals. Based on these
data, Pandora delivers a personalized radio station that fits the song or the
artist selected by the user when he created his own radio station.
Pandora on Sprint offers same features as the online version
of the service. Each user may define up to 100 stations and they can be enjoyed
online at www.pandora.com and on Sprint phones and information about the
current song (including title, artist and album) is displayed on the phone’s
color screen. Also customers can rate songs with the touch of a button with
either “thumbs up” or “thumbs down”. Sprint customers can bookmark a song, in order to purchase it later on the Sprint
Music Store.
“Pandora is like that one friend who everyone wants to have
– someone who really knows and loves music and who can recommend a long list of
bands and songs after you mention what you’ve been listening to lately,” said
Jeff Luther, director of entertainment wireless data for Sprint. “Pandora is a
great way to break out of the same songs on your playlist and hear some new
music that you may have never found otherwise. It’s the latest example of the
many innovative ways that Sprint delivers music on the one device people carry
with them throughout the day.”
By the end of June, Pandora will be available on all Sprint
Power Vision phones.
