Palm chose the fastest, most efficient method to spread the
word about its new Palm Treo 850 before it was even announced, by briefly
posting details of it on its website. The Palm Treo 850 detailed presentation
was “accidentally” leaked on the Internet and it has since been removed.
Whether it was intentional or not, Palm is still not willing
to make an official confirmation of its Palm Treo Pro. So while we wait for
that, here are a few details about Palm Treo 850 or Palm Treo Pro:
The device is a thinner version than previous models, and
comes with a 2.4-inch 320x320 resolution touch screen, as well as a QWERTY
keyboard, a 3.5mm headset jack, a 2-megapixel camera, microSD memory card slot,
micro-USB jack for data transfers, 100MB RAM, 400MHz CPU and a built-in radio.
Furthermore, the Palm Treo Pro, which is said to be among Palm’s
best, will run on Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 and is expected to be 3G GSM
compatible.
Until this point, there’s been no word on an availability
date or the pricing, as we’re still waiting for Palm to make an official
announcement of the Palm Treo 850.
What we do know is that Palm’s newest smartphone will have
to fight strong competitors on the market today, such as Motorola, Samsung,
Research in Motion’s BlackBerry and of course Apple’s iPhone 3G, which is already
king of the charts.
It looks like a hard year ahead, as competition gets tougher
and customers begin to demand even more from smartphone producers. The new Treo
model looks promising, and is expected to first become available to AT&T
and T-Mobile subscribers.
