Pakistan’s recent severe weather conditions have killed hundreds of people and left thousands more without food and shelter.
Pakistan’s southern Balochistan province has seen merciless weather, with the death toll climbing to 380 due to the cyclone and subsequent floods, according to media reports Monday.
In other areas, hundreds of people are missing, while tens of thousands more have been displaced and have no shelter. In Balochistan, tens of thousands of people have spent the last week under the open sky, with little or no food and water.
Aaj TV reported that Balochistan’s roads were seriously affected, making the transportation of aid by land extremely difficult, while the heavy rains and strong wind prevented airborne aid as well. Hundreds of villages have been flooded in Balochistan.
Elsewhere in Pakistan, Aaj TV reported that rescue workers recovered the bodies of 19 persons in Jhal Magsi, 18 in Awaran, 20 in Kharan and 40 in Naal area of Khuzdar district.
In Jhal Magsi, snakebites and epidemic diseases have killed 25 persons. More than 400 are missing. In Turbat, 150,000 persons have been misplaced, according to authorities. It is estimated that approximately 350 persons have lost their loves in Sindh and North West Frontier Province.
Razaq Bugti, spokesperson for Balochistan, announced that fourteen battalions of military and paramilitary forces Frontier Corps have been deployed in the 15 affected districts for relief activities.
